Location: Rockville.

The Director of Operations is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the organization's operational infrastructure, driving efficiency, and ensuring alignment with company objectives. Reporting to the COO, this role leads operational strategy, facilitates process improvement, and supports team development while fostering collaboration across all departments. With direct oversight of the Operations Manager, the Director of Operations ensures smooth execution of daily activities and contributes to long-term organizational success.

Leadership and Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth plans.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence:
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of company-wide policies,
  • SOPs, and operational guidelines in collaboration with department heads.
  • Identify, evaluate, and execute process improvements to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs to track operational performance and drive accountability across departments.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.

Team Leadership and Development:
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Operations Manager and other operational staff, ensuring high levels of engagement and performance.
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support professional growth through coaching and development.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and solutions-oriented work environment.

Facilities and Asset Management:
  • Direct the management of office facilities, including vendor relationships, space planning, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure effective procurement and management of technology, office equipment, and software licenses.
  • Oversee data security protocols and manage the organization’s digital library and cloud storage systems.

Financial Oversight Support:
  • Assist the COO with departmental budget management by maintaining detailed expenditure reports and producing monthly summaries for leadership.
  • Support accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, collections, and transaction recording.
  • Contribute to financial strategy and reporting, including the preparation of P&Ls, cash flow analysis, and cost-saving initiatives.

Internal Customer Service and Support:
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service for internal stakeholders by facilitating operational solutions and resources.
  • Direct company event logistics, from pre-event planning to onsite execution, to ensure operational success.
  • Oversee front office operations, including switchboard management and guest experience, fostering a professional and welcoming environment.

Special Projects and Initiatives:
  • Lead special projects as assigned by the COO, ensuring timely and successful execution.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational processes and align them with strategic goals.
  • Adapt to the evolving needs of the organization with a forward-thinking and flexible approach.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field; an MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in operations management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of process improvement, strategic planning, and driving organizational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with operational and project management software tools.
